ABOUT US
We’re not a big commercial bee keeper but rather a hobbyist with hives in Warner and Eatons Hill North of Brisbane.
I started keeping bees at the age of 10 when I discovered a swarm of bees on my parent’s farm and convinced my father to help me capture it. A local beekeeper was good enough to give me a base, lid and box to put them in, at that time I didn’t even know that the honey comb frames needed foundation in them to ensure the bees built their comb within the frames, in the past 40 years I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about bees and their behaviour but they still continue to fascinate me.
Contrary to popular belief bee keeping is not about just collecting honey but rather farming bees and ensuring the hives remain healthy at all times, the honey is a result of this.
We keep bees for three (3) reasons:
-
We want to ensure that there are sufficient bees in our area to provide adequate pollination for the gardens and fruit trees within the area.
-
We want to give those around us the ability to enjoy honey exactly as the bees made it and as natural as it can be tasting the way real honey should.
-
Most of all we enjoy keeping and working with bees.
All our hives are registered with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries.
We also maintain a few native beehives with the intent of increasing their numbers over time, they do produce honey but we never take it from them, they’re nice to have in the garden
